1. I put a bunch of work in this evening and got things set up for this week. Last week was harder than it should have been. I haven’t been sleeping well lately, so I am doing what I can to make next week easier and focus on self-care. I want to try to relax my shoulders and my jaw, breathe deeply, and sleep well. Having set myself up for success feels like I’m starting the week strong. And there are steaks in the fridge, seasoned for tomorrow’s steak frites, and that will be delicious.

2. Watching 24 in 24, and this season is crazier than before. But what I am really loving is that when the chefs go back to the breakroom, instead of laying down or taking time for themselves, they are all grouped around the doorway, watching what is going on with the remaining chefs. That may change as the hours go by, but it’s so lovely to see them all so invested in all the other chefs.

3. Friday we went to see Alton Brown live. He says it’s his last tour (I believe him), so I really wanted to see it. I loved his book of essays, so I picked up a signed copy. But the show was so much fun. It would have been a perfect night, but there was downtown parking that did not go great, and by that I mean they jacked up their prices and we didn’t find out until we were leaving. But he was smart and clever and did a couple of unusual cooking demos and told stories and sang a really disturbing song, and it was a blast. If you have a chance to see him live, go. For sure.
