achieving new heights

achieving new heights

Caterpillar and Worm and friends. They often talk as they crawl along together. But one day, things changed. Caterpillar found himself attaching himself to a stem. He couldn’t entirely explain why. He just knew that he was changing and he thought that he might one day learn to fly.

Worm couldn’t believe what his friend was saying. He laughed at Caterpillar. And as Caterpillar stayed, feeling like he could change, Worm finally got bored and went home. So he missed it a few weeks later when the chrysalis opened and the Worm, now a Butterfly, spread his wings and flew away.

Caterpillar Chryzzle is the story of change and hope. It’s about listening to the voice inside you, telling you what’s best for you, while turning away from those who refuse to believe or even listen to you. It’s about finding your path, even if it means leaving everything you knew before behind you.

This book is intended for young children, but the message is timeless. Author Andrew Bond, a musician and former secondary school teacher, brings gentle storytelling to this short book. But it’s the beautiful watercolor illustrations from Julie Volk that brings these page to life. The colors and the details offer up a lot of visual interest for children and older readers.

I thought Caterpillar Chryzzle was a lovely book. The story is simple but powerful, and the artwork is bright an inviting, making this book fun to read and share.
