important infant info on bbq
There are some things that you want to start teaching kids when they are very young. The alphabet. Colors. Numbers. Shapes. And barbecue. A Tiny Guide to BBQ is here to help.
With colorful illustrations and simple explanations, this board book offers up basic lessons in how barbecue infuses flavors into the cooking as well as the parts of the grille, the tools of the trade, and sources of fire. It teaches about rubs, marinades, and sauces to add more flavor and how to use a thermometer to make sure the food is perfectly cooked.
Each colorful 2-page spread of the book takes on an important part of barbecue, but the most important lesson may be the one right in the middle of the book: that once things are lit and sizzling, it’s time to step back and leave things to the grownups. As I read the book, I was a little concerned that there was a lot of information about the heat but not enough warnings, so I was very happy to see that.
I live in a city where barbecue is our reason for being. There are award-winning barbecue restaurants everywhere, many with our signature burnt ends. So the thought of a children’s board book introducing the youngest kids to barbecue felt like a genius idea. And I thought A Tiny Guide to BBQ did a very good job with the basics. They explain the heat, they show the tools, they talk about safety, and they talk about flavor. Barbecue fans wanting to teach kids early about their favorite foods can reach for this book and know that they are in good hands.
