just finished: Bridget Jones, The Edge of Reason. Because when nothing makes sense, go with Bridget. She’s the best! I’m just sorry that her story skips ahead the way it does. I mean, we don’t have a novel about hers and Mark’s wedding? That just doesn’t seem right. Just imagine what her mother was like during Bridget’s wedding planning. That book would be a true gem.
currently reading: Anywhere You Go by Bridget Morrissey. It’s about a small-town waitress and a Broadway press agent who swap homes for a while, and fall in love while in their new places. But The Holiday vibes, which I just saw Jack Black talking about in an interview, calling it magic. (I agree. It’s a special movie. Highly recommended, but Christmasy, if you’re a stickler for keeping those movies in the holiday season).
I’m also reading The Full Nest, about a couple who have to open their home for parents as well as children, and they’re feeling the pressure on all sides. It’s billed as laugh-out-loud funny, and I just really needed that right now. So I thought I’d give it a shot.
And I’m reading The Influencers, about a family of influencers and a murder in the family. Everyone in the family and all their fans are trying to figure out who the killer is.
up next: Turning to Birds by Lily Taylor. Actress Lily Taylor. I first saw her in Mystic Pizza so, so many years ago, where she had an electricity that lit up the screen. I’ve seen her in movies or television every once in a while, most notably in my memory as the nanny in Mad About You who was reading Moby Dick to Mabel. I just know that I am moved by her performance whenever I see her. So when I found out she had a book coming out about birds and about noticing the peace that comes from communing with them, I knew I wanted to read it. I am really looking forward to it. I may not be as big a fan of birds as my cat, who spent a lot of time in his favorite window talking to the birds and the bird feeder, but I enjoy watching them and listening to them in a moment of quiet.
